| (completed, documentation and tools production, release pending) BIN ID is a binary file ID standard. It is platform, CPU and operating system independent. It is used for all of EmSai's fileformats, it is open and royalty free and the standard is frozen. File extensions are no longer needed though still practical for pre-filtering, but the days of problems due to filextension clashes are gone. The typical limitations of FourCC and similar file id systems do not exist, existing fileformats can easily take advantage of BIN ID. Software can easily be made to support BIN ID, programs will be able to "identify" files they do not even support. Any operating system can easily be made to support BIN ID, only a few lines of code needed to support the standard fully. EmSai provides a free and public BIN ID "registry", but a independent non-profit entity will be needed when popularity rises! |
